Curriculum Grades K-6

Our curriculum in grades K-6 is driven by learning outcomes that align with Vermont State Standards. Learning outcomes make clear what each child should know and be able to do at each grade level in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, health, physical education, art, music and world language.

The HUUSD Learning Outcomes for K-6 incorporate the following components:

  • Students build knowledge through adequate amounts of subject-area content, concepts, topics, and academic vocabulary
  • Students demonstrate understanding through opportunities to practice/apply thinking skills such as argument, problem solving, and drawing conclusions
  • Students create and/or perform for a purpose
  • Students have opportunities to read, write and discuss every day 
  • Students improve their self-direction through having voice and choice
